Wine Club News (June 2008):
It’s time for BBQ’ing and with some cooperation from mother nature we’ll be outside cooking and eating soon. To celebrate we have chosen a few Zinfandels from Trinitas. Trinitas is the Latin word for Trinity. Trinity in this case symbolizes Sun, Soil & Humanity, three ingredients evoking the perfect wine. The Trinitas Zins we’ve chosen are some of the best California Zins I have tried.
$25 level: Trinitas Bigelow Zin.
This is a perfect food pairing wine. It has nice acidity with notes of raspberry and chocolate on the palate. This wine will be wonderful served with pasta, game, beef or chicken and excellent with spicier fare. The sale price on this wine is usually $25 but we’ll have it available for $20. Wine Club members get an even better price.
You choose between Trinitas Old Vine Zin and Chateau Landereau for your second bottle. The Old Vine Zin is a bit jammier than the Bigelow. It has notes of darker fruit like blackberry. BBQ ribs or steak on the menu? This is the wine. If you prefer a white, the Chateau Landereau is from one of the world’s greatest wine regions. This Bordeaux is a blend of Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle. It’s a mouth filling white that I find bright, refreshing and complex. Serve as an aperitif or with the salad course. It is from the region of Entre-Deux-mers which is located between the Dordogne and the Garonne Rivers. Entre-Deux-Mers is known for large-production, value blends and the Landereau is a fine value. We plan to keep in stock as long as possible.
$35 level: Choose between the Trinitas Old Vine Zin and the Chateau Landereau.
In addition you receive the Trinitas Russian River Zin which is the boldest of all three Zinfandel offerings. It is normally $28 per bottle but is again available to Wine club member for less than $20.
This wine has a bit more Tannin than the other two and more of a plum jam character with black pepper, chocolate and licorice notes. In addition to the two wines, you will receive a bottle of Belgian Beer. The Hercules Stout, the only self-proclaimed ‘Belgian stout’ – 9% by volume – named after famed Belgian detective Hercule Poirot.
This Stout is from the Brasserie Ellezelloise (pronounced “EL-ZEL-WOZ”), located in the town of Ellezelles in the gentle “hill country” of Belgium. The Hercule is considered by many to be a classic, but the brewery also makes a Blond and Amber. (We offered the Amber last month at the $25 level). All are impressive, delicious– very malty, but dry, with only a hint of sweetness in the finish, and perfectly hopped. These beers are made entirely of malt This is another beverage great with BBQ ribs or the pork recipe below.
Cheers!
